Charles Chaplin Conference Director of Event - Lisa K. Stein, Ph.D. Assistant Professor of English In commemoration of Charlie Chaplin's October, 1910 first visit to the United States with Fred Karno's London Comedians, Ohio University Zanesville will host "Charlie in the Heartland: An International Charlie Chaplin Conference." Chaplin scholars and enthusiasts from around the world will meet in central Ohio to explore the role of heartland America on Charlie Chaplin's career. Special events include Timothy Brock conducting the OU orchestra as accompaniment for City Lights on Sunday, October 24th, "Charlie Chaplin and American Culture," a six-week long exhibit at the Zanesville Art Museum and special honored guest Charles J. Maland, whose book 'Chaplin and American Culture: The Evolution of a Star Image' is turning 20. Update SEPTEMBER 2010 - Currently scheduled presenters and events: February 28, 2010 - $250 Graduate Student Presenters Award being offered. See link for details. October 24, 2010 "City LIghts" with Timothy Brock conducting OU orchestra Ben Model is scheduled to play for all the early Charlie Chaplin short films. Scheduled Presenters: More to come Keynote Speaker and Honree Charles J. Maland - author of "Chaplin and American Culture: The Evolution of a Star Image" David Robinson - author of "Chaplin: His Life and Art" David Shepard - Film Preservationist, to show the newly restored "Tillie's Punctured Romance" Kate Guyonvarch - Director of Roy Export and Association Chaplin, Paris Cecilia Cenciarelli - Archivist and Head of Progetto Chaplin, Cineteca di Bologna, Bologna, Italy Dr. Alan Parkinson - author of "Charlie Chaplin's South London" Peter Wyeth - Documentary program called "Charlie Goes to School" Special showings of many Chaplin films Including: The Kid, One A.M., The Immigrant, The Pawnshop, The Idle Class, and maybe even A Dog's Life.
